HOMEOPATHY

The  practice of Homeopathic Medicine was first tested and established 200  years ago by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician. There are three  fundamental laws upon which homeopathy is based. The law of similars, or  “Like is cured by like,” which states that a remedy can cure a disease  if it produces symptoms similar to those of the disease. The second law  of homeopathy, the law of proving, refers to a trustworthy testing  method to prove the medicinal effect of a substance. In standard medical  practices, drugs are often first tested on animals because so many  drugs have been found to cause dangerous reactions. Homeopaths do not  use animals as subjects for testing medicines because they do not react  to chemicals as humans do. Those who are testing the homeopathic  remedies have no concern for testing homeopathic medicines on healthy  humans because the homeopathic prepared remedies are non-toxic.  Amazingly, there has never been a report of a lasting adverse drug  reaction as a result of proving.

The  third law is the law of potentization. This is about the preparation of  a homeopathic remedy. Each one is part of a controlled process of  successive dilutions alternating with shaking, known as succession,  which may continue to the point the medicine contains no molecules of  the original substance. This is called potencies. The lesser dilutions  are low potencies, and the higher dilutions are high potencies. The  higher the dilution the higher the potency. A remedy that is potentized  does not contain sufficient matter to act on tissues directly, which  indicates that homeopathic medicine is nontoxic and cannot cause side  effects. The goal of homeopathy is not to necessarily identify the type  of illness or germ, but to strengthen the individual’s body so that it  will defend itself from harmful organisms.

Homeopathic  remedies come in tablets, dilutions (liquids), pellets all of which are  taken under the tongue and held there until dissolved. A typical dose  is different for adults and children so be sure to read the label or  discuss with your practitioner.
